Takuma Kujira 2: An Impressive Step Forward in Performance in 6 sizes 650/800/950/1100/1250/1400
After enjoying the Takuma Kujira 1 foils, which already impressed us with their versatility and ease of use, we were curious to see what the Kujira 2 would bring. In short, this evolution does not disappoint! It represents a true design change with a completely redesigned fuselage and the rear wing repositioned, offering a more responsive and dynamic foil experience.
The System: New Fuselage and Repositioned Rear Wing
One of the first things that stands out with the Kujira 2 is its completely new fuselage. The redesigned fuselage and the rear wings now positioned on top of the fuselage radically change the foil's dynamics, making it more responsive and offering increased stability at higher speeds. This isn’t just an aesthetic adjustment; it’s a real design shift that transforms the riding experience. The carbon mast, which remains compatible with the V1, has been refined to deliver improved responsiveness and an even lighter feel.
Performance: Impressive Responsiveness and Smooth Ride
During our first session with the Kujira 2, it became clear that this foil is much more reactive than its predecessor. It lifts off quickly and smoothly, with minimal input needed to maintain your ideal ride height once you’re airborne. The small rear wing plays a crucial role in this responsiveness, minimizing drag while allowing for immediate acceleration and good stability during transitions.
What sets the Kujira 2 apart is that it doesn’t just keep rising—it reaches a nice ride height and then requires minimal effort to maintain control. Overall, it “feels” perfectly tuned, offering high performance, yet it is surprisingly hard to go wrong with! Once you realize this, you can really start pushing the envelope in terms of carving and rolling through transitions. For an advanced rider, there’s plenty of performance to unlock, but even an intermediate rider will quickly feel like there’s much more they can do…
Maneuverability: Natural Lift and Great Stability
The Kujira 2 also stands out for its impressive stability once you’ve reached your ride height. Unlike other foils that continue to rise endlessly, this model stops at an ideal flight height and provides intuitive feedback, making it easier to maintain control. It requires very little effort to keep going, making it even more accessible for intermediate riders. Additionally, it doesn’t demand excessive power to maintain consistent speed, allowing for a relaxed ride even in changing conditions.
Pumping and Glide: Great Efficiency for Long Sessions
The pumping on the Kujira 2 is solid and responsive. It produces a quick cadence that allows you to return rapidly to the take-off zone while maintaining excellent control and stability. This makes it an excellent foil for long sessions, letting you stay on the water longer without too much effort. The glide is particularly impressive, offering a smooth transition between waves, which makes the foil ideal for downwind riders or those looking to maximize their performance in surf foil.
In summary, the Kujira 2 represents a major step forward from the previous model. With its new design, redesigned fuselage, and increased responsiveness, it’s a must-have for riders of all levels. While the Kujira 1 was already a great option for beginners and intermediates, the Kujira 2 takes things even further in terms of performance, stability, and maneuverability. It’s also easier to use while still offering high-level performance features for more experienced riders.
If you’re looking to push your limits—whether in carving, surf, or downwind—the Kujira 2 is a solid choice and an excellent companion for long sessions on the water. It combines performance with intuitive handling, offering great stability and an exciting experience every time you hit the water.
The AFS Silk V2 is clearly a surf- and carving-oriented foil, designed to deliver very lively sensations rather than easy, passive riding. Compared to an all-round foil like the Enduro, it stands out with a more reactive glide, sharper responsiveness, and the ability to link turns very smoothly, almost like a surf skate on water. […]
The Enduro is more modern in the sense of being a “single foil for almost everything”: better glide, better average speed, easier in freeride, less tiring, excellent for light-wind downwind and long distances. The Silk still comes out ahead if your main pleasure is: surfing the bumps, linking turns, skate/surf feeling, playing in chop and […]
